County Budget
Like I'm sure many of you all do, I've been trying to follow the County Council's attempt to reconcile the budget with the 3/4 million increase by David Craig. Its a little confusing, so I'll see if my facts are straight.
-3 Council members are not present (District B- Medical, District C-Iraq, District F-Vacation)
-Craig wants over $750 million in budget increases; most notable are the monies for an executive staff, including a Chief of Staff, a Deputy Chief of Staff among others with budgets for the both of them.
-No explanation on how these positions will help the county has been offered. (The Agriculture position is quite self-explanitory to me, so no angry posts from farmers, please)
So, if I understand this correctly, the council cut over $460,000 of the proposed budget.
Then, according to the Aegis yesterday, the council put a lot what they cut back in unanimously.
I still see nothing that fully explains what the county gets out of the money put into this budget. Shame on every present Councilperson for not sticking to their guns. If the County Executive is promoting cronism, which he's been known for doing in the past, what makes anyone think that this won't be as bad as President Bush?

Ok, so $750 million in executive staff? Are you getting that number from every office in the executive branch because that would include the Department of Public Works, Transportation, and a huge amount of other stuff. The real number of the increase for the County Exec's office was more like $200,000 because some of the $400,000 was a transfer from other departments (such as the farm liaison who was actually a member of the Office of Economic Development and when the Council orignally deleted the position as a deputy chief of staff then it eliminated the Farm Liaison entirely because they did not revert it back to OED). Just trying to help keep the facts strait.
750 million is the total budget. check YOUR facts.
that was the point I was trying to make. The author of the blog stated "Craig wants over $750 million in executive staff, including a Chief of Staff, a Deputy Chief of Staff among others with budgets for the both of them."
This is factually untrue as you just pointed out, the $750 million is the total budget. Thank you for correcting the record. I am just a casual observer of county government, but to me the $750 million for the executive staff office seemed like somebody was grossly innacurate and I wanted the record set strait. And thank you anonymous for setting the record strait. The post is incorrect and misleading. Your assistance in setting the blogger, and myself strait is much appreciated.
Mr. Blogger, please set the original post strait. Much appreciated.
The point of the post was to see if the facts were understood correctly. As it turns out, I was mostly correct, and two or so words were left out.
I am not misleading or stating incorrect facts at all, merely seeking an answer.
I do thank you for helping out though.
